LOGO PLACEMENT
THE GD LOGO IS AN EXPRESSION OF OUR BRAND. THE G AND D INITIALS ARE COMBINDED INTO ONE CONNECTED LOGO. TODAY, WE WANT TO SHOW YOU HOW IT IS ATTACHED TO A CASE. The production of the logo is a story for itself. It is made out of 4mm brass plates, cut with a water-jet cutter, holes are drilled and threads are applied, the logo itself is then sanded and polished. When this is done it goes into the cleaning and chroming process to become what it is. All of this is done at three different companies. After completion, the logo has already covered approx. 700 km from the first cutting process to our production site where it will put on a cue case. We want to show you how the GD Logo is attached to the case. Of course, it is not rocket science, but also this operation is completely made by hand and with great care and precision. It has to be perfectly aligned and fixed is such a way, that it stays on the case forever. Sure, there are other ways to do that, but from our point of view this is the most secure way. It is engineered to be a statement of quality and commitment to our brand values. On the picture above you can see all components we need: the logo, two back plates, fixation screws, front leather facing and a placement template. With the template we have the first indication where the logo needs to be placed, as shown on the picture below. Using the back plate, which has the same size as the logo, the exact position is defined and crosschecked, horizontally and vertically several times. When the position is final, we are using the three holes in the back plate to mark the position where the holes for the screws need to be stamped. After removing the plates the three holes remains and in the next process we stamp the 3 holes with a special tool. At this point, we are ready to apply the logo to the leather part. Before doing that we are applying a special thread "glue" called "Loctite" to the threads and put each screw into the final position. With this we ensure that the complete thread is covered with Loctite. This will prevent the screw from loosening after a while. After a few minutes we remove the screws from the metal logo and put the upper screw through the back plates and the holes in the leather and add an additional drop of Loctite. Then we fasten it from the back using a screw driver. This process is repeated for each screw. This is how it looks when all screws are put in place. With the back plates the logo is firmly fixed on the leather. Here you can see the detailed view. The white material you see is the backing material of the special memory-foam lamination we are putting on the rear side of the leather to add softness to the leather. This is made with a special machine and maybe will be part of some other post in future. The placement process is finished when the logo has been inspected and cleaned. The final result. After finishing this process, we cover the logo with tapes, because we want to avoid damaging during the next production steps of the case. When we are applying the logo to a grained or plain leather there is one addition step which we are doing. Before making the holes in the leather we are actually embossing the logo into the leather. This gives us the option to place the metal logo a little bit deeper inside the leather. With this the lower edge is covered by leather and the final result looks even better. This is how the logo looks on grained leather. Find attached also a few images of finished cases where you can see the metal GD logo on different leather styles. We hope you enjoy this post and if you are interested in more behind the scenes coverage we will publish more interesting stories from our daily creations and works. A lot of things are worth sharing with you. Let us also know what you think about it and what you would like to see.
